Meld je aan voor het Germaanse Talen Symposium

Een taalfamilie verschilt eigenlijk maar weinig van een familie zoals wij die kennen. Kinderen zetten zich soms af tegen hun ouders, veranderen hun taalgebruik en maken vaak in vergelijking met hun broertjes of zusjes enorm verschillende ontwikkelingen door. Maar ook al zijn de familieleden uit de Germaanse taalfamilie verschillende wegen ingeslagen, ze blijven natuurlijk wel altijd familie! En die familietrekjes herken je pas als je erop gaat letten.

Op 21 februari 2019 houden de studieverenigingen NNP, S!MP en Albion Association het Germaanse Talen Symposium. Vanuit de vakgebieden van Nederlands, Duits en Engels zullen drie sprekers het Germaans benaderen om zo een duidelijker beeld te geven van onze gemeenschappelijke deler die de talen onherroepelijk met elkaar verbindt.

Het programma ziet er als volgt uit:
> 17:15-17:45 – Prof. Dr. L.C.J. Barbiers: “Het Nederlands als Tussengermaans”

> 17:45-18:30 – Pizza in Koffiekamer Zuid (op aanmelding)

> 18:30-19:00 – Dr. J. Audring: “Er, she, het? Een Germaanse sandwich”

> 19:15-19:45 – Dr. M.H. Porck: “Oudengels is Nederlands en de Beowulf is van ons! Ideeën over Oudengels in negentiende-eeuws Nederland”

Pizza kost €3,- voor leden en €4,- voor externen.
Als je niet mee eet is het evenement gratis, maar verzoeken we je alsnog om je even aan te melden.

Theatre workshop

Theatre workshop

On the 17th of October, Albion and LET (Leiden English Theatre) are hosting a theatre workshop.The workshop will consist of a little bit of theatre theory (that alliterated nicely, didn’t it) and a lot of improvisational acting games! You don’t have to sign up, feel free to join. It will take place in the Lipsius basement from 21:00-22:00.

Afterwards, the montly drinks will take place in cafe the Duke of Oz (Oude Singel 2)

On Thursday the 14th of June, Albion will organise the one and only Chaucer Symposium, together with the Study Association MSVL Floris V. Two of the keynote speakers, and Chaucer enthusiasts, are our own Dr. Porck and Dr. Murchison! Afternoon High Tea

It’s tea time! On Monday the 7th of May Albion will hold an afternoon high tea together with the study association of China Studies SVS! That afternoon we will make sure that there are many different kinds of tea to choose from, as well as some treats. Also, you are of course welcome to bring your own favourite tea! The event will start at 15.00 and it will take place in the Arsenaal building. Make sure to join us for a fun time and a good cup tea!

The Translation of Classics into Motion Pictures

In collaboration with Sophia Aeterna, the study association of Greek & Latin Studies, Albion will organise a lecture on classical period references in movies! The lecture will take place on Wednesday the 11th of April at 17.00 in Lipsius 147 and will be given by our well respected Professor Liebregts. Are you just as excited as we are? Make sure to join us and be amazed by the influences of classics on modern times. Hopefully we’ll see you there!

On Thursday the 5th of April the annual Faculty Symposium will take place! The event will last from 10:15 in the morning until 20.30 in the evening at the Lipsius Building. The day will consist of many interesting lectures on the topic of ‘The myth of high and low culture’, given by different speakers. It is up to you to decide which lectures you find interesting to attend! Do lectures make you feel hungry? Malbion Movie Night

Malbion Movie Night

As you might have heard already, Albion will organise a movie night together with the study association of Film- and Literary Studies Maktub! On Thursday the 1st of March at 17.00  we will screen a movie of your choice! Therefore, make sure to vote for your favourite movie on the Movienight Malbion Facebook event!
Besides watching the movie, we will also have pizza together! You can tell us which pizza you would like to have by sending an e-mail to albionesque@gmail.com or maktub.flw@gmail.com. The costs of the pizza will partly be for your own account. Besides the pizza, there will be a surprise from the study associations as well!

Talengala: Lost in Translation!

On Wednesday 6th of December, the most spectacular event of this whole semester will take place: het Talengala! If you like languages, fancy parties and generally having a good time, then this event is something for you! The gala will start at 21.00 at Sociëteit Quintus (Boommarkt 5A Leiden). Tickets are €15. This includes unlimited drinks. You are allowed to bring a maximum of 2 invitees (tickets: €17,50), but don’t forget to mention them in your email to us as well. The evening will be organized together with Gibalaux, Interlatina, Le Tre Corone, MOST, Nieuw Nederlands Peil, S!MP, and T.W.I.S.T.. This gala will be the highlight of December, so make sure not to miss it! (It’s going to be L.I.T.!)
