The Angler is the magazine created by and for students of the BA English Language and Culture at Leiden University. It serves as a platform for students who are keen on writing articles on topics that interest them. The Angler is published four times annually with every edition containing articles on the main subjects of the bachelor program: philology, literature, language acquisition, and linguistics. However, that only covers about half of what we do.
We also feature an abundance of other items and recurring sections that students of English would be highly interested in to read about. As such, we conduct interviews with tutors from the English department and with alumni, write articles about studying abroad, feature columns (and even comics) by tutors, give tips on creative writing, and write reviews about film, theatre, literature, or television series. Our readership also gets the chance to contribute directly by submitting a poem or short story of their own, or just by voicing their opinion in the column ‘The Angler Speaks’.
As a member of Albion, you are entitled to your own printed copy. Do mind that the stock is limited, so be quick to get one! Prior to publication, you can find posters on the campus about the when and where; we also post announcements both on our and the Albion Facebook page (check the links below). Fear not, an online edition will be made available through the Albion biweekly as well upon release.
We are always looking for people who would like to contribute to the magazine. If you are interested in writing or drawing for us, either as a one-off thing or on a more regular basis, be sure to follow us on Facebook to stay in the loop for the latest news, events, and give-aways. You can also contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
So, if you want to get more out of your BA during your time here at Leiden University, be sure to stay in touch for our next edition!
Like we say at The Angler: Engels is tof.
